Find the reading of the spring balance shown in figure The elevator is going up with an acceleration of g/10, the pulley and the string are light and the pulley is smooth.

Let the tension be "T" in the string. Considering the larger block having mass 3kg,
3g+3g10T3a=0-------- (1)
For the smaller block having ass 1.5 kg,
T1.5g1.5g101.5a=0------- (2)

Solving (1) and (2), T=115g
Since the string is attached in the pulley from both side suspended with mass.
Therefore, tension is 2T=225g

So, reading in the spring is, (22g5)g
= 4.4N
