Solution

The correct option is A

f=2/γ-1

Step 1: Given data

Adiabatic constant =γ

Degree of freedom =f

We know the equation of adiabatic constant

γ=CPCV

Where CP=Specific heat at constant pressure

CV= Specific heat at constant volume

U=Thermal energy

KB=Boltzmann's constant

Step 2 : To find the relation between adiabatic constant and degrees of freedom

We know

E=U×N

N=Number of molecules

R=NKB=f2RT

Now ,

CV=ETV=f2RCP-CV=RCP=CV+R=R2f+2γ=CPCV=f+2f=1+2fγf=f+2f=2γ-1

Hence the relation between γ(adiabatic constant ) and f(degrees of freedom ) is f=2γ-1

Therefore the correct answer is Option A
