Question

Find the relation between p and q if n=3 ,y=1 is a solution of a pair of lines x-4y+p=0 and 2x+y-q-2=0

Open in App
Solution

The given equations are :x−4y+p = 0 .....(1)
2x+y−q−2 = 0 .........(2)
Since, (3, 1) is the solution of (1), then it must satisfy it.
x−4y+p = 0
⇒3 − 4(1) + p = 0
⇒3 − 4 + p = 0
⇒−1 + p = 0
⇒p = 1
Since, (3, 1) is the solution of (2), then it must satisfy it.
2x+y−q−2 = 0
⇒2(3) + 1 − q − 2 = 0
⇒6 + 1 − q − 2 = 0
⇒5 − q = 0
⇒q = 5
