Find the resistance of an intrinsic Ge rod 1 mm long, 1 mm wide and 1 mm thick at 300 K. The intrinsic carrier density is 2.5×1019 m3. If the mobility of electron and hole are 0.39 m2V1s1 and 0.19 m2V1s1, calculate the resistivity.

We know that, conductivity,

σ=e(neμe+nhμh)

σ=eni(μe+μh)

σ=1.6×1019×2.5×1019×(0.39+0.19)

σ=2.32 Ω1m1

So, resistivity,

ρ=1σ=12.32=0.43 Ω-m

Further, resistance,

R=ρlA=0.43×1×1031×103×1×103
