Solving by factorisation,

$x^{2} - 3 x - 10 = 0$

=> $x^{2} - (5 - 2) x - 10 = 0$

=> $x^{2} - 5 x + 2 x - 10 = 0$

=> $x (x - 5) + 2 (x - 5) = 0$

=> $(x + 2) (x - 5) = 0$

=> $x = - 2$ & $x = 5$
