Question

Find the second longest wavelengths (in ˚A) emitted when hydrogen atoms make transitions and the spectral lines lie in the visible region(R = 1.097 × m1).

Open in App
Solution

As we know,
Longest λ = Shortest energy gap
In visible region,
3 2
and
4 2
are the two longest wavelengths
λ32 = 6562.8A0
λ42 = 4861.3A0
so these are the longest wavelengths.
