Question

Find the solubility of KNO3 at 20C when the mass of the empty dish is 50 g, the mass of dish and solution is 65 g, while the mass of dish and residue is 54.3 g.

Open in App
Solution

Mass of solution = (mass of dish and solution)(mass of dish ) =65g50g=15g
Mass of solute = (mass of dish and residue )(mass of dish) = 54.3g50g=4.3g
Mass of solvent = mass of solution - mass of solute =154.3=10.7g
Solubility is amount of solute present in 100g of solvent.
Hence, 4.3g of solute is dissolved in 110.7g solvent.
1g solvent will dissolve 4.3/10.7g solute.
100g of solvent will dissolve (4.3×100)/10.7=40.17g of solute.
