Solution

The correct option is A
x = - 2 and y = - 1

$3 x - 5 y = - 1$ ...(1)

$x - y = - 1$ ...(2)

On multiplying equation (2) by 3, we get

$3 x - 3 y = - 3$ ...(3)

On subtracting equation (1) from (3), we get

$2 y = - 2$

$\Rightarrow y = - 1$

On substituting $y = - 1$ in equation (2), we get

$x + 1 = - 1$

$\Rightarrow x = - 2$

$∴ x = - 2 a n d y = - 1$
