Question

Find the sum and product of the roots of 2x2 – 3x + 5 = 0

Open in App
Solution

Given quadratic equation is 2x2 – 3x + 5 = 0

On comparing with ax2 + bx + c = 0, we get a = 2, b = -3 and c = 5

Let α and β be the roots of the equation

Sum of roots = α+β = -b/a = -(-3)/2 = 3/2

Product of roots = αβ = c/a = 5/2
