Find the sum:
$$\dfrac{4}{9} + \dfrac{8}{9}$$


Solution

Given
$$\dfrac{4}{9} + \dfrac{8}{9}$$
$$=\dfrac{4+8}{9}$$  (on taking $$9$$ as L.C.M of the denominator)
$$=\dfrac{12}{9}$$
$$=\dfrac{4}{3}$$  (on dividing both numerator and denominator by $$3$$)
$$\therefore \dfrac{4}{9} + \dfrac{8}{9}=\dfrac{4}{3}$$
$$=1\dfrac{1}{3}$$
