Adding the decimals -
Addition of decimals is done by adding hundredths to hundredths, tenths to tenths, ones to ones, tens to tens and so on, as is done for whole numbers
First convert the unlike decimals into like decimals by writing $0.5$ as $0.50$
$1 \to carry over 0 . 8 7 + 0 . 5 0____________1 . 3 7$
Hence , the sum of $0.87, 0.5$ is $1.37$
