Find the sum of the expression-

3x+4xy-y2;xy-4x+2y2;3y2-xy+6x

Open in App
Solution

To add two or more algebraic expressions, group the like terms of the expression and add each group of like terms separately.

The Sum

=(3x+4xy-y2)+(xy-4x+2y2)+(3y2-xy+6x)

grouping the like terms

=(3x-4x+6x)+(4xy+xy-xy)+(-y2+2y2+3y2)

adding the numerical coefficients of like terms

=(3-4+6)x+(4+1-1)xy+(-1+2+3)y2=(9-4)x+4xy+(-1+5)y2=5x+4xy+4y2
