Solution

To add two or more algebraic expressions, group the like terms of the expression and add each group of like terms separately.
The Sum
$= (3 x + 4 x y - y^{2}) + (x y - 4 x + 2 y^{2}) + (3 y^{2} - x y + 6 x)$
grouping the like terms
$= (3 x - 4 x + 6 x) + (4 x y + x y - x y) + (- y^{2} + 2 y^{2} + 3 y^{2})$
adding the numerical coefficients of like terms
$= (3 - 4 + 6) x + (4 + 1 - 1) x y + (- 1 + 2 + 3) y^{2} = (9 - 4) x^{} + 4 x y + (- 1 + 5) y^{2} = 5 x^{} + 4 x y + 4 y^{2}$
