Open in App
Solution

Given equation x2x6=x+2
x2x6=±(x+2) (by definition of absolute value function)

Case 1
For x2x6>0 that is for x3 or x2
x2x6=x+2
(x4)(x+2)=0
x=4,2
Roots are 4,2 for x2x60
Case 2
For x2x6<0 that is for x2 or x3
x2x6=x2
x2=4
x=2,2
Roots are 2,2
for x2x6<0
So, sum of roots =2+2+4=4 for the
given equation.
