we have the equation $6x^2-x-2=0$

divide the equation by 6

$\frac{6}{6}{x}^2-\frac{1}{6}x-\frac{2}{6}=0$

$=x^2-\frac{1}{6}x-\frac{1}{3}=0$

as we know an equation is of form $x^2+(\alpha +\beta )x+\alpha \beta$ where $\alpha$ and $\beta$ are the roots of the equation

comparing the equation we have,

$\alpha +\beta =\frac{-1}{6}$

$\alpha \beta =\frac{-1}{3}$
