A typical cube has $6$ faces, cubical box without a lid will have five faces.
Each face is a square of side $a$ and area of each face $= a^{2}$
Surface area of a cubical box
$= 5 \times a^{2} = 5 \times 1^{2}$
$= 5 m^{2}$
