We know,
Surface area of pyramid = Area of the base + Sum of the areas of the 4 lateral triangular faces

Area of the base (square) = 16×16 sq. in

Area of 4 triangular lateral faces =4×12×17×16

Total surface area of the pyramid =(16×16)+(4×12×17×16)

=256+544

=800 sq.in
