  1. Protons are the positively charged particles that are present in the nucleus of a hydrogen atom.
  2. The mass of a proton is equal to that of the hydrogen atom.

Step-1 Calculating the number of moles

  • The molar mass of calcium carbonate is = 100g/mol
  • Given weight of calcium carbonate is = 10g

Formulatofindno.ofmoles=Givenweight/Molarmass

No.ofmoles=10/100

No.ofmoles=0.1

Step-2 Calculating the number of molecules using Avogadro Number

As one mole of molecules = 6.022×10223molecules.

0.1 mole of molecules = 6.022×1022molecules.

Step-3 Calculating the number of Proton

Calcium carbonate contains one Calcium atom, one Carbon atom and three Oxygen atoms

  1. The carbon atom has 6protons,
  2. A Calcium atom has 20 protons
  3. One oxygen atom has 8 protons. Therefore, three oxygen atoms will have= 8×3=24 protons.

We know the number of protons in 10g of Calcium Carbonate = the Number of protons in 6.022×1022 molecules.

Then, we can use

TocalculateTotalno.ofprotonin10mgCalciumcarbonate=Totalnumberofproton×6.022×1022

= 50×6.022×1022
