Let’s unfold the cylinder.
The area of the cylinder is equal to the sum of the area of two circles and the area of the rectangle.

Total area of the cylinder =2 × area of each circle + area of the rectangle

Area of each circle =πr2
Area of the rectangle = length × width =2πr×h=2πrh

Therefore, total area=2×πr2+2πrh=2πr(r+h)
Now π=227,r=7, and h=3.

Total area =2×(227)×(7)×(7+3)=44×10=440 sq in
