Find the total surface area of a hollow cylinder open at both ends, if its length is 12 cm, external diameter is 8 cm and the thickness is 2 cm.

Given for the hollow cylinder with open at both ends, length is h=12 cm, external diameter is 8 cm and the thickness is 2 cm.

Then external radius is r1=4 cm and internal radius isr2=42=2 cm.

Now the total surface area of the hollow cylinder will be,

=2×π×(r1r2)×h

=2×π×(42)×12

=48π cm2.
