Suppose, one green chip is equivalent to +1.


Now, to find the value of (2+4), we have to add 2 and 4 which is equivalent of adding 2 and 4 green chips (as one green chip is equivalent to +1).

Addition of 2 and 4 green chips results in 6 green chips as depicted in the following.


And, 6 green chips are equivalent to +1+1+1+1+1+1=+6=6.
