Need to find:(3)+5 using chip model

Suppose, we have two different colored chips as depicted below.


Consider, one green colored chip denotes +1 and one red colored chip denotes 1.

Also, addition of one green chip and one red chip would be equal to 0 as one green chip (+1) and one red chip (1) cancel out each other.


Now, to find the value of (3)+5, we have to add 3 and 5. This can be carried out by adding 3 red chips with 5 green chips as shown below.


3 red chips combine with 3 green chips, and by cancelling each other, it results into 0. Remaining 2 green chips are equivalent to +2.

Therefore, (3)+5=+2=2.

(c.) is the correct option.
