Open in App
Solution

Find the value of (-32)-(-40):

To subtract an integer b from another integer a, we add the additive inverse of b to a. So, a-b=a+(-b).

The additive inverse of -40 is 40.

So, (-32)-(-40) =(-32)+40

To add a negative and a positive integer, we subtract the absolute value of the greater integer from the smaller and put the sign of the number with the greater absolute value to the result.

So, (-32)+40 =8.

Hence, the value of the given expression is 8 .
