The given quadratic equation is x2(a2)x(a+1)=0
Here, A=1,B=(a2),C=(a+1)

Let α and β be the roots of the given equation,
α+β=BA=[(a2)]1=a2

αβ=CA=(a+1)1=a1

α2+β2=(α+β)22αβ

=(a2)22(a1)
=a24a+4+2a+2
=a22a+6
=a22a+1+5
=(a1)2+5

α2+β2 is least, if a1=0
a=1
