Question

Find the value of acceleration due to gravity near the surface of the earth.

Open in App
Solution

We know that,
mg=GMmr2
Here, m = Mass of the body
g = Acceleration due to gravity
M = Mass of the Earth = 5.98×1024 kg
G = Universal gravitational constant = 6.673×1011Nm2kg2
r = Radius of the Earth = 6.38×106 m
So,
g=GMr2=6.673×1011×5.98×1024(6.38×106)2=9.8m/s2
