(2) 2y2 – 5y + 10 = 0
(3) 2x2+4x+22=0

Open in App
Solution

(1) x2 + 7x – 1 = 0
Comparing the given equation with ax2+bx+c=0,
a=1,b=7 and c=-1
So, the discriminant b2-4ac=72-4×1×-1=49+4=53

(2) 2y2 – 5y + 10 = 0
Comparing the given equation with ax2+bx+c=0,
a=2,b=-5 and c=10
So, the discriminant b2-4ac=-52-4×2×10=25-80=-55

(3) 2x2+4x+22=0
Comparing the given equation with ax2+bx+c=0,
a=2,b=4 and c=22
So, the discriminant b2-4ac=42-4×2×22=16-16=0
