Question

Find the value of K for which the roots of equation: 2kxsquare-40x+25=0, are equal and real.?

Open in App
Solution

The given quadratic equation is,2kx2 − 40x + 25 = 0
We have,a = 2k; b = −40; c = 25
Now, D = b2 − 4ac
= (−40)2 − 4(2k)(25)
= 1600 − 200k
Now for equal roots, D= 0
⇒1600 − 200k = 0
⇒200 k = 1600⇒
k =1600/200 =8
