Solution

The general equation of second degree ax2+2hxy+by2+2gx+2fy+c=0
Represents a pair of straight lines if Δ=abc+2fghaf2bg2ch2=0
For 12x2+xyy2+kx+6y9=0
a=12,b=1,h=12,g=k2,f=3,c=9Δ=(12×1×9)+(2×3×k2×12)(12×3×3)(1×k2×k2)(9×12×12)=0108+3k2108+k24+94=0k2+6k+9=0(k+3)2=0k=3
