Find the value of $p$ and $q$ .
If $p \times q = - 18$ and $p + q = - 7$

$p \times q = - 18$

$p + q = - 7$

$p \times q = - 18 \Rightarrow p = \frac{- 18}{q}$

Substituting the value of p in equation $p + q = - 7$ we get

$\frac{- 18}{q} + q = - 7$

$\Rightarrow q^{2} + 7 q - 18 = 0$

$= (q + 9) (q - 2)$

$\Rightarrow q = - 9, 2$

if $q = - 9$ then

$\Rightarrow p = \frac{- 18}{q} = \frac{- 18}{- 9} = 2$

$\Rightarrow p = 2$

These values should satisfy the equation,

$p + q = - 7$
$= 2 - 9$
$= - 7$
$∴ q = - 9, p = 2$
