Solution

Let p(x) = x2 + 2x + 5

i To finding the value of px when x=0, put x=0 in the given polynomial. px=x2+2x+5p0=02+2×0+5 =5p0=5The value of the polynomial is 5 when x=0

ii To finding the value of px when x=3, put x=3 in the given polynomial. px=x2+2x+5p3=32+2×3+5 =9 + 6 + 5 =20p3=20The value of the polynomial is 20 when x=3

iii To find the value of px when x=-1, put x=-1 in the given polynomial. px=x2+2x+5p-1=-12+2×-1+5 =1-2 + 5 =4p-1=4The value of the polynomial is 4 when x=-1

iv To find the value of px when x=-3, put x=-3 in the given polynomial. px=x2+2x+5p-3=-32+2×-3+5 =9-6 + 5 =8p-3=8 The value of the polynomial is 8 when x=-3

v To find the value of px when x=a, put x=a in the given polynomial. px=x2+2x+5pa=a2+2×a+5 =a2+2a+5pa=a2+2a+5The value of the polynomial is a2+2a+5 when x=a
