$3^{x} + 3^{x + 1} = 36 (a^{m} \times a^{n} = a^{m + n}) \Rightarrow 3^{x} + 3^{x} \times 3^{1} = 36 \Rightarrow 3^{x} (1 + 3) = 36 \Rightarrow 3^{x} \times 4 = 36 \Rightarrow 3^{x} = 3^{2} On comparing the powers, we get : x = 2$
