Find the value of ‘x’ in the following proportions.

(i) 110 : x : : 8 : 88 (ii) x : 26 : : 5 : 65

(i) If a : b : : c : d , product of the means is equal to product of the extremes, that is bc = ad.
Here, a = 110; b = x; c = 8; d = 88

8x = 110 x 88
x = $\frac{110x88}{8}$ = 110 x 11 = 1210

(ii) a = x; b = 26; c = 5; d = 65

26 x 5 = 65x
x = $\frac{26x5}{65}$ = $\frac{26}{13}$ = 2
