$x : 48 : : 23 : 12$
First and last term is called extreme terms, that is $x$ and $12$ and $48$ and $23$ is called middle terms.
product of extreme terms = product of middle terms
$x \times 12 = 48 \times 23 x = \frac{48 \times 23}{12}$
$x = \frac{23 \times \overset{4}{48}}{\underset{1}{12}}$
$x = 23 \times 4 ∴ x = 92$
Hence the value of $x$ is $92 .$
