Substitute $x = - 2$ and $y = - 1$ in the above expression.

= $(- 2 - 1) (- 4 - 1) + (- 2 - 2) (- 2 + 1)$ $[1 m a r k]$

= $(- 3) (- 5) + (- 4) (- 1)$

= $15 + 4$
