Given:
$12 x + 13 y = 29$
$13 x + 12 y = 21$

Adding both the equations, we get
$25 x + 25 y = 50$
$\Rightarrow 25 (x + y) = 50$

Divide both sides by $25$ , we get
$x + y = 2$
