(i) $m + n + p$
$= (- 1) + 0 + 1$
$= - 1 + 1$
$= 0$

(ii) $m^{2} n^{2} + n^{2} p^{2} + p^{2} m^{2}$
$= (- 1)^{2} 0 + 0 (1)^{2} + (1)^{2} (- 1)^{2}$
$= (- 1)^{2} 0 + 0 (1)^{2}$ + 1
$= 1 (0) + 0 (1) + 1 (1)$
= 1
