Evaluate the discriminant D for the given equation x2+4kx+(k2-k+2)=0

Here, a=1,b=4k,c=k2-k+2

If the roots of the equation are equal and real, the discriminant D is equal to zero

ā‡’b2-4ac=Dā‡’(4k)2-4(1)(k2-k+2)=0ā‡’16k2-4k2+4k-8=0ā‡’12k2+4k-8=0ā‡’3k2+k-2=0ā‡’3k2+3k-2k-2=0ā‡’3k(k+1)-2(k+1)=0ā‡’(3k-2)(k+1)=0ā‡’3k-2=0andk+1=0ā‡’k=23andk=-1

Thus, the value of k are 23 or -1.
