Let a be the common root of the given equations, then,

a2λa21=0 and a23λa+35=0.

Subtracting second from the first, we get,

2λa56=0

2λa=56

a=562λ

a=28λ

Putting this value of a in a2λa21=0, we get,

(28λ)2λ×28λ21=0

(28λ)249=0

16λ2=0

λ2=16

λ=±4
