∴ 1992 = (200 − 1)2
Thus, we can use the identity (a − b)2 = a2 − 2ab + b2 .
∴ 1992 = (200 − 1)2
= (200)2 − 2 (200) (1) + (1)2
= 40000 − 400 + 1
= 40000 + 1 − 400
= 40001 − 400
= 39601
or 199 = 200 − 1
∴ 1992 = (200 − 1)2
