Question

Find the vector equation of a line passing through a point 2^i+^j3^k and perpendicular to the vectors ^i+^j+^k and ^i+2^j^k ?

Open in App
Solution

Let the position vector of given point be

a=2^i+^j3^kb=^i+^j+^kc=^i+2^j^k

b×c=∣ ∣ ∣^i^j^k111121∣ ∣ ∣

=3^i+2^j+^k

Since the required linre is perpendicular to both b and c.

therefore,
Required equation of the line

r=a+λ(b×c)

=(2^i+^j3^k)+λ(3^i+2^j+^k)
