During dilution of a solution, the number of moles of solute is not changing.
M1=0.5 M
V1=300 mL
M2=0.25 M
We know that M1V1=M2V2V2=M1V1M2=300×0.50.2=750 mL
So, volume of water to be added =750300=450 mL
