Find the volume of wood used to make a closed rectangular box of outer dimensions $60cm\times 45cm\times 32cm$, the thickness of wood being 2.5 cm all around. Also find the capacity of the box.

outer dimensions : $60\times 45\times 32$

Thickness of wood $=2.5cm$

$l=60-2\left(2.5\right)=55cm$

$b=45-2\left(2.5\right)=45cm$

$h=32-2\left(2.5\right)=27cm$

$\therefore$ The capacity of the box = $l\times b\times h=(55\times 40\times 27)c{m}^3$$=59400c{m}^3$

Total volume of box $=L\times B\times H$

$=(60\times 45\times 32)c{m}^3$

$=86400c{m}^3$

$\therefore$ Volume of wood used $=$Total volume - Actual capacity

$=86400-59400$

$=27000c{m}^3$
