Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 2x2-9-3x and verify the relationship between zeroes and the coefficients.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Find the zeroes of quadratic polynomial 2x2-9-3x:

Let the polynomial px=2x2-3x-9.

px=2x2-3x-9=2x2-6x+3x-9=2xx-3+3x-3=x-32x+3

The value of polynomial px=0.

x-32x+3=0x-3=0or2x+3=0x=3orx=-32

Therefore, the zeroes of polynomial are 3and-32.

Step 2. Verify the relationship between zeroes and coefficient:

Take α=3andβ=-32.

sumofzeroes=α+β=3+-32=32=--32=-coefficientofxcoefficientofx2

Productofzeroes=αβ=3×-32=-92=constanttermcoefficientofx2

Hence, the zeroes are 3,-32 and the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients is verified.
