f(s) = $4s^2-4s+1$

f(s) = 0

$\Rightarrow 4s^2-4s+1$ = 0

$\Rightarrow (2s{)}^2-2\times 2s\times 1+1$ = 0

$\Rightarrow (2s-1{)}^2$ = 0

(2s-1)(2s-1) = 0

$\Rightarrow$ 2s = 1 $\Rightarrow$ = 1

s = $\frac{1}{2},\frac{1}{2}$

So we have found out the two roots of the above given equation. Now the sum of the two roots = $\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2}$ = 1
