$\begin{matrix} = x^{2} - 2 x - 8 = (x - 4) (x + 2) \end{matrix}$
The value of $x^{2} - 2 x - 8$ is zero when $x - 4 = 0$
i.e. when $x = 4$ or $x = - 2$
Therefore,
the zero of $x^{2} - 2 x - 8$ are $4$ and $- 2$
sum of zero $= 4 + (- 2)$
