Find two numbers, whose sum is 100 and whose ratio is 9 : 16.

Let the two numbers are 9x and 16x, whose sum is 100

$\begin{array}{cc}\therefore & 9x+16x=100\\ \Rightarrow & 25x=100\\ \Rightarrow & x=\frac{100}{25}=4\\ \Rightarrow & x=4\end{array}$
Hence, the two numbers are
$\begin{array}{cc}& 9x=9\times 4=36\\ & 16x=16\times 4=64\end{array}$
