Five balls A, B, C, D and E are used in an experiment and following observations have been made :

(1) Ball A repels C and attracts B.
(2) Ball D attracts B and has no effect on E
(3) A negatively charged rod attracts both A and E.

Based on above information, select the correct charge configuration for balls (if any):

The correct option is B R
From (1),
A repels C, hence both balls must be similarly charged. Either both are +ve or both are -ve.

A also attracts B, hence charge on B should be opposite of A, or B may be a neutral conductor.
(If B is neutral conductor, A will attract B due to induction)

From (2),
D has no effect on E thus D and E are neutral bodies.

Also B attracts D, hence B is a charged body and D is an uncharged one.

From observation (3),
a negatively charged rod attracts A and E.
Thus, A is positively charged and E is a neutral body.
A+, E0, D0

Hence, only option (c) is satisfying all above condition.
