Question

Flocculation value of BaCl2 is much less than that of KCl for sol A and flocculation value of Na2SO4is much less thanthat of NaBr for sol B. the correct statment among the following is a.both sols A and B are negatively charged b. sol A is positively charged and sol B is negatively charged c. both sols A and B are positively charged d. sol A is negatively charged and sol B is positively charged

Solution

Flocculation value depends on valency.
For a positively charged sol, more is the negative charge more is the flocculation value.
For a negatively charged sol, more is the positive charge more is the flocculation value.
So, BaCl2 has lower flocculation value than KCl for solution A. Hence the sol A is negatively charged.
Flocculation value of Na2SO4 is less than NaBr for solution B. Hence, the sol B is also negatively charged.
