Following are the car parking charges near a bus stand upto :

Check if the parking charges are in direct proportion to the parking time. [3 MARKS ]

$$\begin{array}{cc}\text{2 hours}& \text{Rs.40}\\ \text{4 hours}& \text{Rs. 60}\\ \text{6 hours}& \text{Rs. 70}\\ \text{8 hours}& \text{Rs. 80}\\ \text{10 hours}& \text{Rs. 90}\end{array}$$
Now, when we cross multiply the first two entries of the parking charges we have

2 -------- 40

4 -------- x

$i.e.2x=4\times 40$

$i.e.x=\frac{4\times 40}{2}$

$=2\times 40$

$=80$

But the entry is 60

Similarly
8 -------- 80

10 ------ x

$\therefore 8x=10\times 80$

$x=100$

But the entry is 90.

Hence the parking charges are not in direct proportion.
