Question

Following are the features of genetic codes. What does each one indicate? __________ Stop codon, Unambiguous codon, Degenerate codon, Universal codon.

Solution

Stop codon - UAA, UAG, UGA - these are the termination codons.
Unambiguous codon - It means that each codon only codes for one amino acid, not more.
Degenerate codon - 20 amino acids are coded by 64 triplet combination (codons). It means that one amino acid is coded by more than one codon, meaning, degenerate.
Universal codon - The genetic code is similar in most of the organisms. It means that codon which codes methionine in humans, does the same in prokaryotes as well. So, it is universal.
