Digestion - Process by which organic factors in the food are broken down into simple components so that they can be absorbed by the body. It occurs in the stomach.

Absorption - Nutrients in the food are absorbed into the blood.

Assimilation - Absorbed components are utilised by the body.

Egestion - Process by which the byproducts of metabolic reactions which are not useful to our body are eliminated.
